CHALLENGE: The center needed show content targeted for PreK audiences, and also a way to generate an additional income stream. Stakeholders recognized that creating and licensing shows to other planetariums would fulfill both user and business needs.
The challenge – the center had never created a fulldome show before and had no established guidelines or processes on how to create or licence a planetarium show.
SUMMARY: Formally a 2D slide projection presentation, recreate the “In My Backyard” show utilizing an immersive environment to enhance the learning experience for a preK- 5 audience; establish a streamlined and well-documented process for collaboration with other university departments and creation of future shows.
KEY OUTCOMES
- Creation of “In My Backyard” – an interactive fulldome planetarium show for PreK audience
- Revenue generation of over $100,000 in licensing/show sales and counting.
- Establish show production pipeline and collaboration with university divisions.
- Document processes and resources for software/hardware needs analysis, show creation guidelines, licensing procedures for creation of future fulldome planetarium shows.

CLIENT: CocaCola Space Science Center at Columbus State University
SUMMARY: The Space Mission Simulation is a live and interactive 2.5 hour experience that allows participants to play the role of scientists and engineers while utilizing skills in areas like teamwork, problem solving and communication. The experience comprises of a mission control simulator designed after NASA’s Johnson Space Center and a Space Station simulator modeled after the International Space Station.
PROJECT – Complete redesign of the end-to-end learning experience for the Mission Simulator lab. Creation of customized visual designs, enhanced audio and interactive elements to enhance the user experience and retain learning concepts.
TASKS: User research, design sprints, rapid storyboarding, visual design and animation.

OUTCOME: Creation of an interactive and engaging learning experience that requires participants to communicate and work together as a team in order make the space mission successful.
This new learning experience also served as a new revenue stream for the center. It has become packaged as a Team Building exercise for adults and marketed to corporations and businesses.

PROJECT OVERVIEW: Create a seasonal show that tells the story behind the history and traditions of Halloween. Show the evolution of how Halloween has transitioned from the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain to a day of parties, costumes, jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating for kids and adults.

OUTCOME: Creation of an engaging seasonal fulldome show geared towards a PG-13 audience that educates on the history and evolution of Halloween.
This show experience also served as a new revenue stream for the center, by creating seasonal content which they did not have prior to the project.
